VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCH
Last week we threw a lovely lunch for our volunteers to say a huge thank you for everything they do. The last couple of years have not been easy and our volunteers have had to work in some very difficult circumstances, sometimes putting themselves and their families at risk. We wanted to show them that we recognise what they have done for the community and to thank them for it.
Lunch was provided by local Turkish restaurant Marmaris (if you’re not familiar with them you should check them out – the food was delicious).
It was the first time we have been able to get together with no restrictions for quite some time. And whilst it was lovely to see everyone, we had to say goodbye to 2 of our longest serving volunteers. Firstly Aziz Hajee, who has been volunteering at The Hungry Mind for over 11 years. It’ll be sad to see him go but after the pandemic he needs to spend more time growing his business back up. We also say half a goodbye to the lovely Ruth Collar. Ruth has decided to step down as Clubhouse Manager but will stay on as your Wednesday morning volunteer (she makes a mean cappuccino), and resident coffee expert and trainer.
There are around 30 volunteers at The Hungry Mind, including board members and management team. But we are always looking for more people to help out. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, you can get in touch here and or email email@example.com.
Without the volunteers, there would be no Hungry Mind. It really is a family and we’d love you to come and join us. We’ll be doing more regular volunteer get togethers, as well as offering volunteers discounts on selected events and activities. We want our volunteers to feel that they are valued and listened to.
We have introduced a suggestion box to the Hungry Mind. We asked our volunteers to make suggestions, comments or give feedback on anything they think we could be doing better. We’d also love to hear from you. You can fill in a card and post it in the box at the clubhouse, or you can use the contact form on the website and get in touch that way. We are happy to hear what you think, what you need and what you wish we would do or offer that you think is missing.
